I know you haven't heard from me for the past week or so- my wife Lori and I took a well deserved vacation to the West Coast. Our journey started in Seattle, Washington and ended in San Francisco, California. I purchased this tee-shirt at a upscale "Hippie Store" on the corner of Haight-Ashbury (start of the hippie movement in the mid to late 60's) in San Francisco.
There were Rock and Roll posters for sale in this establishment selling for hundreds of dollars. The "Haight" as it is called has become very she-she with high-end stores, expensive housing, and pricey restaurants. Jerry Garcia would probably be turning over in his grave if he could see what his old stomping grounds has turned into.
We also spent some time at Fisherman's Wharf, where we saw the famous "California Sea Lions" lounging on the docks. Two of the sea lions had climbed onto a ledge along the back of a boat that was moored to the dock. This is not a postcard I purchased, this is an actual picture I took with my camera- check out the name of the boat.
Another memorable part of the vacation was the driving- eleven hours (at times boring, at other times very interesting) from Seattle, Washington to a little Northern California town along the Pacific Coast know as Ferndale. The next day we started driving from Ferndale to San Francisco through the Humboldt Redwood Forest along a 32 mile road know as the "Avenue of the Giants", appropriately named for the the Giant (Sequoia) Redwood trees that mark the route.
What I found very special about this drive was picking up a local radio station that was playing all classic Bob Dylan music throughout the drive, including a 10 minute rendition of Bob Dylan singing Mr. Tambourine Man. There are verses to this song I never heard before, and I was able to locate the song on You Tube. Click her to see video. The combination of the music and driving through the Redwood Forest couldn't have been more perfect.
Why am I boring you with this crap?. I don't have much else to say apart from the truth that the very end of the free concert season has fallen upon us (boo-ho), and subsequently, my (self-appointed) job gets a lot easier. But (never start a sentence with the word but- use the word however), you will automatically be receiving my Health and Wellness Newsletters (HWN) about one to three times per month, until free concert season begins again.
Let's say you are not interested in reading my HWN list (and I can understand and appreciate that), but wish to remain on my Free Concert Newsletter (FCN) list. Here's how it's done- just send me an e-mail asking to be taken off the HWN list, but kept on the FCN list-it's that simple. Or, you can send me an e-mail asking to be taken off my FCN list and left on my HWN, or taken off both lists, or any combination thereof.
My HWN will contain information that is timely- for instance when it snowed a few years ago, I sent out You Tube Video links demonstrating good snow shoveling techniques to avoid injuring your back. I also disseminate information that you are not going to read about or see on TV- even cable. My HWN is written to support concepts that relate to alternatives (mostly natural methods), but also sometimes "state of the art" alternatives in the field of medicine.
I also keep the newsletters going so that I keep my name in front of you so you don't forget me.
Below are the remains of what was a truly great free concert season. You may see another FCN this year regarding some of the events occurring in late September, but by this time of year, I am burnt out from writing- it happens each year, especially after I take my vacation.
